Recollections from Birth

I was a C-section baby as were, coincidentally, my children. (I tell people that it was my fault because I didn't have a map to give to my kids.) C-section baby, nothing too odd about that lots of babies are C-section. I said I have always had odd things happen to me and here's where it starts. I was carried to term in the fallopian tube. Occasionally a fertilized egg will attach itself to the wall of the fallopian tube, but those babies don't last long and the body naturally ends the pregnancy and aborts the fetus. There just isn't enough room to develop a baby there, except apparently I did. These tight quarters had a few side effects. You can't quite get enough oxygen because everything is so constricted. So as a result I was born bright blue. Considering that the fallopian tube is tube shaped physical development is also tube shaped. Not so bad for torso, arms and legs, but for that 1/3 of a newborns body weight, the head, not great. Yes my head was tube shaped and pointed. My physical ears also didn't have room to develop naturally and were also pointed. So here I was a bright blue, cone headed, pointy eared baby. The doctors told my mom that there was no way I should have lived being carried to term in the fallopian tube and that due to the lack of oxygen and the severely deformed head that I would not live long. Fortunately my mom had seen a lot of strange things in her life, was head strong, had always been involved with alternative medical techniques her entire life and was somewhat niave! She very gently massaged my head and ears every day with warm olive oil until they were the way they should be and that as they say is that. I still have some side effects. Generally I liked to be wrapped up tightly and while mom was carrying me the only way she could get comfortable was to put her arm above her head and bend the elbow. I have always found this position comfortable and often find myself relaxing this way.

Lipsticks and Ladders

I work as a Computer Tech for a school division and as such from time to time I have to pull cables for new network connections. About 6 years ago we completely rewired one of our elementary schools. Usually we run the cables loose on top of the t-bar ceiling. I know, how professional of us, but that is a blog for later. We often find things on top of the ceiling tile, especially in the high schools where the students may be tall enought to put things there. Usually its garbage, like someone's choclate milk container. Or maybe someone was working up there and forgot a screwdriver or some other tool. If the ceiling tiles are missing people often throw things up there. When we wired the elementary school there were some missing tiles in a science lab and we found 2 new stuffed monkeys. We thought that was odd, but whatever. There were tiles missing there for several years and someone probably through them up there and forgot about them.
So when we were finished wiring the elementary school, I think it would be safe to say we had been in every nook and cranny of that school. Over the next couple of years I had to go back from time to time and pull more cables. One particular day I was pulling a cable from a new room back to our switch in the library. I'm on the ladder and I'm lifting the ceiling tile and something starts to fall on me. I put my hand up to catch whatever was laying on top of this tile and through my haze of disbelief the realization starts to hit me. "This is a bag of lipsticks falling on me!" I get down off my ladder with a bag containing 30 or so lipsticks. The lipstick were mostly red, some were new some were very old. Some had been used, most looked as if they had been dug with someones fingernail. Some had a bunch of fine scratches and looked as if they had been drug across a beard.
How did they get there? I had to have a ladder to reach the ceiling tile. So whoever put it there probably did to. Why did someone put them there? One of the teachers said someone was standing in front of a mirror smearing them on saying "I feel pretty" Yikes! No one ever admitted to owning the lipsticks. Another mystery I'll probably never get to know why?

The Ongoing Incidents that Form a Mind

I'm going to use this blog to document odd things that have happened to me. The events will be in random order and will be peculiar, but not fictitious. I'll try to give each one an interesting title that in someway represents the content. If anyone ever reads this I hope you enjoy!

Vegas Baby!

Well we went to Vegas for spring break. I was a little apprehensive, but it was AWESOME! I'd go back in a second. There is so much to see and do. We seen probably about one third of the stuff to see on the Strip and nothing from the old Strip at all. We went to Hoover Dam which was incredible. The Dam like everything else we seen in Vegas was huge. The scale of the hotels there are hard to fathom unless you have been there and walked among these giants. Some of the other things within a couple of hours drive that I would like to see if we were to go again are; Roswell, Area 51 and the Grand Canyon. They have a couple mountains there, in opposite directions from the city, that would be great to check out. One is snow-capped andhas the oldest living trees, the Bristlecone Pine, some are around 4500 years old. The other one is more like a hill really, but this hill has rocks on it from four different time periods and no one is sure why. At the base of the hill is a wetlands. For Nevada being a "desert" state Ithink it's funny that its name means snow-capped and that Las Vegas means the meadows.
